After five attempts, BJP opens Mizoram account

After five unsuccessful attempts since 1993, the BJP on Tuesday managed to open its account in Mizoram with a win from the Tuichawng seat. BJP candidate Buddha Dhan Chakma, a rebel Congress MLA who switched sides, secured 11,419 votes to beat the Mizo National Front (MNF)’s Rasik Mohan Chakma by a margin of 1,594 votes. The BJP fielded candidates in 39 of the state’s 40 seats, but managed to secure one win.
