Newcomer springs a surprise, defeats bigwigs

Zoram People’s Movement ‘s Lalduhoma, a former police officer and the party’s chief ministerial candidate, won two seats in the Mizoram polls. He defeated the outgoing Congress chief minister, Lal Thanhawla, in the Serchhip seat by a margin of 410 votes. Lalduhoma also secured another win from Aizawl West-1. His party, which was formed last year, came second after the Mizo National Front, by winning eight of the total 40 seats.
