Wanted in murder, other cases, gangster Baba held
JALANDHAR:Gangster Gurwinder Singh alias Baba, wanted for the July 27 murder of one Ajay Kumar Dona of Dakoha and other crimes, was arrested in a joint operation by the counter-intelligence wing Jalandhar and commissionerate police on Tuesday.
Baba, 39, a resident of Pholriwal village, and his associates allegedly shot dead Dona when he was leaving a gym in Rama Mandi. Baba is a proclaimed offender and was wanted in more than half-a-dozen cases, including murder, attempt to murder and dacoity, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of thecounter-intelligence wing and the police arrested Baba at a checkpoint near the Urban Estate railway crossing.
Counter-Intelligence wing assistant inspector general (AIG) HPS Khakh said Gurwinder is an active member of ‘Sheru Group’ of Doaba region which is headed by another absconding gangster Sukhi Dhirowalia.
He said, “The murder was planned at Baba’s house and was also financed by him. The accused intentionally chose the place (gym) and time as they knew Dona would be disarmed at that time.”
“After the murder Baba had fled to Rajasthan and stayed there for months. After returning back, he attempted to conceal his identity by growing moustache and beard. He also continuously changed his hideouts,” he added.
The police had arrested Jagdeep Singh, Yograj Singh and Mukesh Kumar on August 2, however, the primary accused in the case, Baba and Arjun Sehgal, were absconding.
The police parties have been alerted to arrest Arjun Seghal, the AIG said.
