DEAD SEA IN DIRE STRAITS
It’s disheartening that Dead Sea is about to die. It is said to be drying up sooner than expected at an alarming receding rate of 3 feet a year. The recent rise in sinkholes have wreaked havoc on shores, owing to water erosion since many natural water sources, especially flowing South through Jordan river valley from Lebanon and Syria, have been diverted for farming and drinking water. Unchecked mineral miners and potash producers have compounded the situation. Dead Sea, which borders Israel, Jordan and West Bank, has failed to draw attention amid unending land disputes and religious intolerance.
