Armed men take school owner captive, rob her of jewellery

AMRITSAR: Four unidentifi­ed armed robbers looted gold ornaments after holding an elderly woman, who owns a private school, and her domestic help captive near Airport Enclave on Ajnala Road here on Monday night.

As per the police, Harinder Kaur, 65, lives in a portion of the school building with her son. The incident took place at around 8pm when four men with their faces covered entered the premises of HK Public School, police said.

In her statement to the police, Harinder said, “I live on the ground floor while my son Parminder Singh’s family stays on the first floor. On Monday night, I was alone in my room when four people, one of them carrying a pistol and others sharp weapons, entered my room. They forcefully made me sit on a chair, taped my mouth and tied my hands.”

“The robbers then removed my diamond earrings, a diamond ring and a gold ring. They also took along my two mobile phones of Samsung company. The robbers also took some cash from my room’s cupboard before fleeing,” she told the police.

Harinder said she was freed by her son and later came to know that the accused had gagged her domestic help Iqbal Singh and his wife Aman at their quarter before entering her room. “The robbers had also taken along the mobile phone of Iqbal,” she said.

ADCP, City2 Lakhbir Singh, along with a team of cops, visited the spot.

The ADCP said on the complaint of the victim, a case under sections 379-B (snatching), 452 (house-trespass after preparatio­n for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered against unidentifi­ed men.
