Rain brings cheer to farmers
AMBALA: Rain was experienced in several parts of Haryana on Wednesday, bringing cheer to farmers.
A spokesman for the meteorological department in Chandigarh said Ambala received highest rainfall (20.6 mm) in the state.
He said the minimum temperature in the city dipped to 11.4 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.2 degrees C.
Rohtak recorded 2 mm rainfall, Sirsa 1.4 mm.
“Light rainfall was reported from Fatehabad, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Jind, Kurukshetra and some parts of Bhiwani,” he added.
Dr Raj Singh, head of the agricultural meteorology department at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, said rain will be beneficial for wheat, barley, mustard, methi and vegetables.
“In fact, it will be beneficial for every crop and will provide the required moisture content. These days, farmers give the first water to mustard seeds. After 15 days, wheat will also be irrigated and the rainwater will be helpful for the growth of these crops,” he added.
Satywan Kumar, a farmer from Jind, said the rain at this time is good for farmers and it will help increase yield. “I have sown wheat on 5-acre land and mustard seeds on 2 acres. After rain, there will be fog, which provides moisture to the crop,” he added.
