: Union steel minister Birender Singh on Wednesday ruled out simultaneous Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in Haryana.

He was in Bahadurgarh to mobilise party workers for his upcoming ‘Kisan Divas Rally’ in Jind on December 23 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Birender, who had previously announced that the 2019 polls will be the last elections he will contest, may launch his son Brijender Singh in politics during the Jind rally.

“Let me tell you, assembly elections in Haryana will be held in October and not with the Lok Sabha elections, which would be held earlier.”

He, however, claimed that the results of the assembly elections in three states (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh) will have no impact in Haryana.

“The Lok Sabha elections may have some impact on the state as assembly elections in Haryana will be held a few months later,” he added.

The Union minister maintained that the BJP lost in the three states because the people wanted to “try something new”

To a question, he said, “I will not call it anti-incumbency. Due to anti-incumbency, the ruling party is completely wiped out from a state. But in these states, the BJP gave a tough fight to the Congress. Some people voted for another party only because they thought they should try new things.”

Birender said for any government to succeed, farmers needed to prosper under its rule. “The children of farmers today are disenchanted with agriculture. They don’t want to continue farming and are looking for other career options,” the minister said.
