Four armed men loot ₹10L from Axis Bank branch in Amritsar
AUDACIOUS Robbers also took away DVR of the CCTV cameras
AMRITSAR : Unidentified armed men looted ₹10 lakh from Axis Bank’s Saido Lehal branch near Khujala village in the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place at around 2pm when four persons, with covered faces, entered the bank and robbed the cash at gun point from the bank’s cashier.
Police said, “The four miscreants came in a Hyundai i20 car and parked it outside the bank, one of the robbers entered the bank posing as a customer, while the other three entered the bank a little later.”
As per the bank staff, all the accused were armed. Soon after entering the bank, the robbers pointed their guns at the bank’s cashier, Amanpreet Kaur.
“In fear, I gave ₹10.40 lakh cash to the robbers. After getting the cash, they left the bank, ” the cashier said.
Before fleeing, the robbers also took away the digital video recorder (DVR) of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in and outside the bank, one of the staff members said.
After getting the information about the incident, senior superintendent of police (SSP-rural) Parampal Singh, along with other senior police personnel, reached the spot and initiated the probe.
He said as per the preliminary investigation, five persons were involved in the robbery, four who went inside the bank and one, who was on a motorcycle, kept a watch outside the bank.
“We are working on various theories to identify the accused, who have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at Tarsikka police station,” the SSP said.
