India plans to integrate the learnings from Intensifie­d Mission Indradhanu­sh with its universal immunisati­on programme, which is the largest in the world.

Reaching every child

IMI was launched in October 2017 to provide 90% full immunisati­on to 12-23 months old kids in 190 districts where immunisati­on was 50.5% or less in 2015-16, compared to 62% for the rest of India Between Oct 2017 and Jan 2018, 15 mn vaccines were delivered in 9,628 vaccinatio­n sessions in IMI areas 5.95 million children were vaccinated, of which 850,000 were vaccinated for the first time

1.4 million kids aged ≥12 months were fully vaccinated 1.18 million pregnant women were also vaccinated, of which 660,000 were fully vaccinated

Full immunisati­on coverage increased by >30% in 56 districts of 190 districts surveyed (29.5%), by 10-30% in 83 districts (43.7%), and by <10% in 51 districts (26.8%)

Vaccines given free under India’s global immunisati­on programme CHILDREN

At birth: BCG (Bacillus Calmette–Guerin), oral polio and hepatitis B vaccines

6-14 weeks: Three doses of pentavalen­t, oral polio and injectable polio vaccines.

9-18 months: Measles or combined measlesrub­ella vaccine

18 months: DPT and oral polio vaccine boosters 6 and 14 weeks: Three doses of rotavirus, pneumococc­al conjugate, and Japanese encephalit­is vaccines in areas where these are added to the routine schedule
