In Sangrur, Khaira’s ‘Insaaf March’ comes a damp squib
SANGRUR : The ‘Insaaf March’ (march for justice) led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dissident leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira proved to be a damp squib in Sangrur district, the home turf of senior party leader and local MP Bhagwant Mann, as not many people turned up to show solidarity with him on Thursday.
The march started at Mastuana Sahib around 10:30am with barely a hundred people.
The former leader of opposition, accompanied by Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) chief Simarjeet Singh Bains and Bhadaur MLA Pirmal Singh, passed through Badrukhan village, Sangrur city, Mangwal and Bhindran villages in the district.
Khaira and Bains also addressed the villagers who listened to their speeches but did not join the march. At some places, there were hardly two or three women participants in the march. “Though people are in less numbers, they all want to save Punjab,” said Goldy Singh, a resident of Bahadurpur village in the district.
Mewa Singh, 76, of Duggan village, said, “The number does not matter. I hope this group will fight against injustice and defeat traditional parties.”
Khaira, however, said the march was a getting huge response. “Hundreds of people are joining us. They are dissatisfied with the Congress rule and want a change,” he claimed.
“Bhagwant Mann is a dictator like Akali Dal president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, who targeted his opponents by using police. Sukhbir sent six Sikh activists to jail who opposed him. Also, police registered a case against five AAP youths for showing political differences at the behest of Mann,” said Khaira.
CAPT HAS CHOSEN BEANT’S PATH: BAINS
Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) chief Simarjeet Singh Bains said chief minister Amarinder Singh does not speak like a Sikh and his opposition to the corridor to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan establishes that he is a man of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Amarinder Singh has chosen the path of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh. He often speaks like Beant Singh and opposes demands of the Sikh community,” said Bains.
“Punjabis are criticising lifting of the Bargari sit-in. In fact, the protest was started at the behest of the Congress and it was called off with the order of the government,” the Lok Insaaf Party chief claimed.
