POLICE SAID IT WAS A CASE OF OLD ENMITY, ACCUSED ARRESTED

ROHTAK: A 22-year-old man was shot dead during celebrations of a ‘baraat’ (wedding procession) in Kusumbhi village of Bhiwani district, the police said on Thursday.

However, they maintained that it was a case of old enmity and not celebratory firing.

The deceased has been identified as Yogesh Kumar, a resident of Sonepat. Yogesh was accompanying the baraat of his cousin to Bhiwani where the marriage was to take place.

However, Sumit Kumar, another guest in the procession, fired a shot at him in an inebriated state.

Yogesh was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police said the family claimed that accused Sumit and Yogesh had fought with each other over a petty issue two months ago. At that time, Sumit had warned Yogesh of dire consequences.

“On Wednesday night, both were drunk and were dancing on the beats of dhol when Sumit suddenly took out his unlicensed pistol and shot Yogesh dead. He then fled the spot,” Bhiwani sadar police station in-charge Ramesh said.

“The family informed us about the old enmity between the duo. Sumit was booked under murder charges and relevant sections of the Arms Act. He has been arrested,” the SHO said
