AMRITSAR: The rural police claimed to have arrested four gangsters, who recently robbed two cars at gunpoint—one in Amritsar and another in Muktsar— from Dharar village on Jandiala-Khadoor Sahib Road, 20km from here, during a barricading on Thursday.

The nabbed men have been identified as Harmandeep Singh aka Harman of Khakh village in Tarn Taran, Simarjit Singh aka Simma and Harmandeep Singh aka Manna of Bhorsi Rajputtan village in Amritsar, and Pargat Singh aka Pagga of Kotli Saru Khan village in Tarn Taran.

According to the police, the arrested men were wanted in various districts of Punjab in around half-a-dozen criminal cases, including attempt to murder and robberies. One of the arrested men, Pargat Singh, however, was wanted for Goindwal Sahib (Tarn Taran) shootout. The shootout, that took place in August this year, was the result of gang war between two rival groups of gangsters —in which four people were killed, say police.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP-rural), Parampal Singh, said a team led-by Jandiala station house officer (SHO), Sikandar Singh, was present at Tarn Taran-Jandiala T-point on Amritsar-Jalandhar highway for routine checking.

“During the checking, the team got a tip-off that the accused, who looted a Hyundai Creta car from Jandiala town in Amritsar at gunpoint, are coming from Khadoor Sahib side. Following which the team laid a naka at Dharar village,” said the SSP.

Some unidentified men had looted a car (PB-02-DQ-7374) and some cash from Gurdial Singh of Tarn Taran on December 4 at gunpoint from Jandiala.

The SSP said during the barricading, the team stopped a Toyota Etios Liva car (PB-08-DX-1616) that came from Khadoor Sahib side. “The accused were present in the car. Upon searching the vehicle, the police team recovered two country-made pistols— one of .32 bore and another of .12 bore—and three live cartridges.”

He said soon after the recovery, the accused were arrested. “At the instance of the accused, we have also recovered the robbed Creta car from a brickkiln in Manjhpur village of Tarn Taran.”

During the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that the accused had looted the Etios Liva car from Gidarbaha in Muktsar at gunpoint, the SSP said, adding that the arrested men had made a gang of robbers and were involved in several major crimes in Punjab.

“Accused Pargat Singh was wanted in Goindwal Sahib gang war. The king-pin of the gang is Lovejeet Singh aka Love of Khakh village, who is at large. He is wanted by Tarn Taran and Amritsar police in around six criminal cases, including murder. There are two more accomplices of Love, Prabhjeet Singh and Robinjeet Singh of Hansawala village in Tarn Taran, who are also the members of the gang,” he added.

He said continuous raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused.

ONE OF THE ARRESTED MEN WAS ALSO WANTED FOR GOINDWAL SAHIB SHOOTOUT IN WHICH FOUR PEOPLE WERE KILLED, SAY POLICE
