2 KIDS DROWN IN PIT FILLED WITH RAINWATER IN LUDHIANA
LUDHIANA: Two children died after drowning in an open pit filled with rainwater at Iraq village in Machhiwara, around 30km from here, on Friday.
Ruby Kumari, 4, and her younger brother Shiv Kumar, 3, were playing near their shanty when they fell into the pit. Their father, Surinder Sharma, a farm labourer, was out for work while their mother, Reena Devi, was busy in household chores at the time of the incident. It is not known who dug the pit.
A passerby saw the children slipping into the pit and informed Reena. The children were pulled out with the help of locals, but they were already dead.
The family performed their last rites without informing the police.
Machhiwara station house officer Harvinder Singh said police have no information about the incident. He said action will be taken after receiving a complaint.
