1 lakh AAP volunteers to reach out to people over high power tariff
PARTY WILL TRAIN 5,000 MASTER VOLUNTEERS IN PUNJAB TO LEAD THE MARCH
CHANDIGARH : As part of its ‘Bijli Andolan’, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will ask its 1-lakh volunteers to reach out to people in urban and rural pockets of the state to listen to their power-related problems and redress them.
In a statement, leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Harpal Cheema said to achieve this, experts from among those who had been active in the Delhi movement will train as many as 5,000 master volunteers in Punjab to lead the march. He said the movement had been kick-started in Sangrur by state party chief Bhagwant Mann on Friday, followed by MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke from Ludhiana on Saturday,
Cheema said the volunteers will personally reach out to every consumer in the state and will apprise them of how the government was charging exorbitant rate for electricity consumption. The volunteers will also inform them of the power tariff in Delhi.
MANN LYING ON DELHI POWER RATES: REBEL S
Five rebel MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday accused their party colleagues in Punjab of spreading disinformation on the issue of the Delhi government providing electricity at ₹1 per unit to consumers.
“While we demand that the Punjab government drastically cut down the electricity tariff, there is no need to resort to lies to buttress the demand as state president Bhagwant Mann and others are doing,” MLAs Kanwar Sandhu, Nazar Singh Mansahia, Pirmal Singh Khalsa, Jagdev Singh Kamalu and Jagga Hissowal said in a statement.
They said for the first 100 units of electricity consumed while the domestic consumers in Delhi have to pay approximately ₹4.50 per unit, the consumer in Punjab pay ₹6.50 per unit.
“In both cases, besides the basic rate per unit (₹3 per unit in Delhi and ₹4.91 per unit in Punjab), other charges include fixed charges, electricity duty or tax, meter charges, surcharge etc,” they said, attaching a ₹418 bill for 92 units of a domestic consumer in Delhi.
