Sukhbir prom­ises free elec­tric­ity to Haryana farm­ers if voted to power

AMBALA: SAD pres­i­dent Sukhbir Singh Badal on Satur­day promised to pro­vide free power to farm­ers in Haryana, on the pat­tern of Pun­jab, if his party is voted to power in the state assem­bly elec­tions later this year.

Ad­dress­ing a pub­lic rally here, the Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (SAD) chief asked Pun­jabis to unite to help the party form the next gov­ern­ment in Haryana.

“The SAD is go­ing from vil­lage to vil­lage across the state to unite Pun­jabis. I urge you to also cre­ate aware­ness about the unique so­cial wel­fare ini­tia­tives started in Pun­jab by Parkash Singh Badal. All these ini­tia­tives will be repli­cated in Haryana also,” the SAD pres­i­dent said.

Farm­ers will be pro­vided free power if the party forms the gov­ern­ment in the state, he added.

Cur­rently, farm­ers in Haryana are pro­vided sub­sidised power for ir­ri­ga­tion.

The SAD will con­test the par­lia­men­tary and assem­bly polls in Haryana in­de­pen­dently.

Urg­ing Pun­jabis not to di­vide their votes, Badal said their is­sues could be ad­dressed only if the SAD comes to power in the state.

He said the party was com­mit­ted to mak­ing each vil­lage a model vil­lage by en­sur­ing 100 per­cent sew­er­age and wa­ter sup­ply. “We will im­ple­ment this in Haryana once we form the gov­ern­ment in the state,” he said.

Dub­bing the Congress as the big­gest en­emy of the Sikh com­mu­nity, Badal said the SAD had fought re­lent­lessly to en­sure jus­tice to the 1984 riot vic­tims

Sukhbir al­leged that at­tacks were made on the mem­bers of the Sikh com­mu­nity un­der the ten­ure of for­mer Haryana chief min­is­ters Bha­jan Lal and Bansi Lal.

SAD MLA Balkaur Singh, who had joined the JJP re­cently but re­turned to the Akali fold the next day, was also present at the rally.

SAD’s Delhi MLA Man­jin­der Singh Sirsa, Dera Bassi MLA N K Sharma and party’s Haryana unit chief Sha­ran­jeet Singh Sotha also at­tended the event.

PRO­TEST­ERS HELD FOR SHOW­ING BLACK FLAGS

Mean­while, 20 peo­ple were ar­rested by the Ambala city po­lice for hold­ing a protest ahead of the rally.

DSP Ambala city Ajit Ku­mar said that the po­lice had de­tained the pro­test­ers for block­ing the path of the rally. They were re­leased after the rally.
