DIVISION STATUS: KARGIL WANTS ITS SLICE TOO

SRINAGAR: Days after Ladakh was granted divisional status, people in Kargil have begun an agitation seeking rotation of divisional headquarte­rs, which have been placed in Leh.A complete shutdown was observed in Kargil and a protest demonstrat­ion was held in Jammu on Monday. Kargil town witnessed protests and shutdown against the decision of keeping the offices of divisional commission­er and inspector general of police at Leh. Demanding that the offices should be placed on a rotational basis at Leh and Kargil, the protestors termed the decision of governor Satya Pal Malik as an injustice. Kargil Hill Developmen­t Council, chairman, Feroz Khan said, “We have started the agitation and it will continue till our demands are met. The offices have been headquarte­red at Leh. We want that the headquarte­rs should be located in Kargil for six months in summer and the other six months in Leh.”
