Four arrested for kidnapping 19-yr-old girl in Karnal

KARNAL: Four youths were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 19-year-old girl on the pretext of marriage from Karnal’s Samalkha town.

The girl was rescued from a cross-river mall in Delhi on Monday evening and handed over to her family members.

The police said that they received a complaint from the victim’s father that the main accused Sabbir with help of his friends Shahjad and Jiyaul, of Delhi and Asmohammad of Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, (UP), had kidnapped his daughter on the pretext of marriage on intervenin­g night of July 18 and 19.

On the complaint, the police had booked Sabbir under Section 366 (abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The incident had caused tension between the two communitie­s. Inspector Deepak Kumar said, in her statement before the magistrate, the girl alleged that the accused Sabbir used to stalk her and stop her on the way whenever he found her alone.

She alleged that on the intervenin­g night of July 18-19 he came to her house and took her along.

She alleged that the accused took her to Kolkata and Hyderabad and forced her to marry him and change her name and later they came to Delhi.

The accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday. However, the police did not confirm whether the victim was raped. Further investigat­ion is on.

YOUTH BOOKED FOR RAPE OF MINOR GIRL

A youth was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage from Panipat on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Saddam, a resident of Raj Nagar area of Panipat. The girl was rescued from Ambala railway station recently. Panipat Model Town police station in-charge Sunil Kumar said victim’s father had filed a missing complaint of his daughter on July 19. During the investigat­ion, it was found that the accused Saddam had kidnapped her on pretext of marriage. He said, in her statement, the victim told the police that the accused had kidnapped her on pretext of marriage and also raped her. He left her alone at the Ambala station and fled. The accused was booked under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 363 and 366A of the IPC.
