Gang run by gangster Bhagwanpuria’s aide busted, five held
Four double-barrel rifles, 183 live cartridges seized
TARN TARAN : Police on Tuesday busted a gang run by the henchman of Punjab’s dreaded gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and arrested five of its members and recovered 10 firearms and 183 live cartridges from different parts of Tarn Taran. The gang was involved in weapon peddling. Police said five members of the gang are still absconding.
The accused have been identified as Roshan Hundal aka Jag Roshan Singh of Kaler village, Samma Pehalwan aka Sarwan Singh of Kaironwal village, Lovejit Singh of Rasulpur village, Sukhdev Singh of Jewaan Singh Nagar and Ekam Sandhu of Kazikot village in Tarn Taran.
Police said Hundal is the kingpin of the gang and is a close associate of Punjab’s gangster Bhagwanpuria, who is currently lodged in Amritsar jail in several criminal cases, including murder and attempt to murder.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Tarn Taran, Dhruv Dahiya, while addressing a press conference said, “We had a tip-off about the accused. A team was immediately dispatched and the accused were arrested in sperate raids .”
“We have recovered four double-barrel riffles, two riffles of .315 bore, two revolvers of .32 bore and two pistols of 32 bore. We have also recovered 183 live rounds,” He said.
He further said, “The gang is involved in several cases of intergang violence, hooliganism, illegal weapon peddling, extortion and criminal intimidation in Tarn Taran area. It was also involved in firing during students union election. Some members of the gang were also involved in incidents concerning snatching and loot at gunpoint. Roshan Hundal was in contact with gangster Bhagwanpuria. Many pictures of theirs have also surfaced on social media.”
We have registered a case under Sections 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act, and 336, 188 , 148 , 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused at Tarn Taran City police station, he added.
