Cong recommends Sudhir Sharma’s name from Dharamshala
DHARAMSHALA : With the Himachal byelection drawing closer, the local Congress unit has recommended the name of former minister Sudhir Sharma as the candidate from Dharamshala assembly segment.
Dharamshala and Pachhad assembly segments in Himachal will go to poll on October 21 and counting is scheduled for October 24.
The executive committee of Dharmashala block Congress had unanimously passed a resolution recommending Sharma’s name for the byelection on Monday. Sharma represented the Dharmashala constituency from 2012-2017 and was a minister in the Virbhadra Singh-led government.
Himachal Congress chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore had also called applications from aspirants. So far, three people —Manoj Kumar, Shubhkaran and Puneesh Padha —have applied for the ticket from Dharmashala. Though Sharma did not put in his name, he was recommended by the local unit.
‘UNANIMOUS CALL’
When contacted, Dharamshala Congress president Rajesh Kapoor said they had unanimously recommended Sharma’s name.
“Whatever development we see in Dharamshala took place during Sharma’s tenure. We are fully prepared to fight the election under his leadership,” said Kapoor.
Meanwhile, talking to the media persons on sidelines of today’s meeting Sharma said that final decision on candidates will be taken by high command.
