Four killed, six hurt in mishap on J&K NH

JAMMU: At least four people were killed and six others injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a parapet and overturned on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Jhajjar Kotli on Thursday.

The Tata Sumo, ferrying ten people, was on its way from Udhampur to Jammu, when the incident took place. Police said the driver lost control over the vehicle that crashed into a parapet along the highway.

Four people died on the spot while six others, including the driver, were rushed to Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu for treatment.

Majority of victims were labourers and were travelling from Leh to Jammu.

The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Kumar 27, Hazia Ray, 32, and Bholinabi, 35, all residents of Bihar and Daljeet Singh, 26, of Punjab. Police said it appears the driver lost control over the vehicle while overtaking on a sharp curve.

12 INJURED AS BUS OVERTURNS NEAR MANDI

MANDI : At least 12 people were injured when a private bus overturned at Gutkar on the Mandi-Sundernaga­r national highway 21 on Thursday evening.

It is reported that about 31 people were on board at the time of the accident. As per informatio­n, the private Chandel bus (HP 31-4299), coming from Sundernaga­r to Mandi, suddenly overturned and rammed into a tree at Gutkar near Mandi around 6.15pm.

The movement of vehicles on this route was also disrupted for some time.

The injured driver suffered serious injuries while other passengers were taken to Zonal Hospital in Mandi for treatment.

A case has been registered and investigat­ion were taken up to ascertain the cause of incident, police said.
