IN GURU’S SERVICE
Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday launched the week-long celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak at Sultanpur Lodhi with an appeal not to indulge in politics or one-upmanship, but to commemorate the event. He called upon the people to follow the Guru’s teachings of tolerance and harmony to counter the challenges of growing religious intolerance faced by the country. He invited all to participate in the main function on November 12, and also to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. He also cautioned against Pakistan’s move to open the Kartarpur corridor by terming it suspicious. “Its agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is going to make full use of the corridor to promote pro-Khalistan campaign ‘Referendum 2020’ besides its own agenda,” he said.
NEW DELHI : A new biography of Guru Nanak will be released on the occasion of his 550th birth anniversary, announced publishing house Penguin on Tuesday. Written by professor and author Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh, the book titled “The First Sikh: The Life and Legacy of Guru Nanak”, claims to be a “majestic and magisterial portrait” of the life and legacy of Guru Nanak. The book, according to the publisher, “unites rigorous scholarship with a deep love for the subject, offering fascinating insights into the Guru’s life and times even as it explores key facets of Sikhism”.
