24 FIRS, RED ENTRIES FOR 704 FARMERS
SANGRUR: Following directions of chief secretary and DGP, the district police registered 24 FIRs against farmers who burned paddy residue, deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said on Tuesday. The cases were registered under section 188 (defying the order promulgated by a public servant) of the IPC.
Thori also said the administration has made red entries in the revenue records of 704 land owners who burned stubble, while fines to the tune of Rs 16.47 lakh have been imposed in 643 farm fire cases in the district so far.
“Eight teams of civil and police administration are visiting in several locations to stop farm fires in the district. Sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) have been asked to take strict action against offenders,” said the deputy commissioner. Action is being taken under 144 CrPC and 188 of the IPC against those violating the law he added.
4 FIRS IN BARNALA
Meanwhile, four FIRs have been registered against errant farmers in Barnala. Besides, 125 farmers were challaned for burning paddy residue in the district and 24 red entries were made in revenue record against farmers, deputy commissioner Tej Partap Singh Phoolka said.
