326 booked for stubble burning in Karnal
KARNAL : As many as 326 farmers of Karnal district have been booked for stubble burning with the total number of live fire incidents in the district touching 968 till November 5.
As per information, officials of the Karnal agriculture department have sent details of erring farmers to the office of the Karnal superintendent of police for action. The cases have been registered under Section 188 (disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 39 of the Air Prevention and Control of the Pollution Act.
Haryana agriculture department deputy director Aditya Pratap Dabas said action is being taken against erring farmers and so far, 326 farmers have been booked under Section 188 of the IPC.
He added that so far, 968 live fire incidents have been reported in the district but after physical verification it was found that the crop waste was burnt at only 548 locations.
Dabas claimed that awareness campaigns were launched in all villages of the state and the district recorded about 40-45% fall in the incidents of cases of stubble burning even though Karnal has the maximum area under paddy cultivation in the state.
CHECK ON STUBBLE BURNING REMAINS A CHALLENGE
As per the daily report of the Haryana Space Application Centre, there was no check on the incidents of stubble burning with 5,181 cases reported in the state so far. On November 5 alone, 364 incidents of live fire came to the fore, out of which 123 were in Fatehabad, 59 in Jind, 46 in Kaithal and 44 in Karnal.
At 1,063, Kaithal recorded the maximum number of live fire cases. This is followed by Karnal with 968 cases, Fatehabad with 895 cases, Kurukshetra with 709 cases and Jind with 361 cases.
OFFICIAL SUSPENDED
Haryana government on Wednesday suspended Kaithal deputy director for agriculture Pawan Sharma for failure to check stubble burning. The action was taken following a complaint by Kaithal deputy commissioner Priyanka Soni.
