Shocked and enraged over the Delhi violence. Urge Amit Shah and Arvind Kejriwal to sit together and resolve the crisis immediately. AMARINDER SINGH, CM, in tweet

CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said the public anguish against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) will continue to grow bigger till the Central government realises its mistake and withdraws the draconian citizenship law.

“The Centre failed to factor in the possible reaction of the people in its plans to impose the CAA, as well as the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) on the nation,” he told reporters while responding to a question from the media during an informal interaction outside the state assembly.

Amarinder said naturally there had to be a reaction to the Centre’s attempt to trample over the democratic ideals of socialism and secularism of the country. Asked about the Centre’s decision not to invite Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to the banquet hosted for the visiting US president Donald Trump, the CM described it as “unfortunate” and said such a thing had never happened under Congress governments.

In response to another question, he said that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal should also have been invited for the US First Lady’s visit to Delhi schools. “Though I am not a supporter of policies of the AAP , it is customary for the CM to be invited when a VIP like Donald Trump is on a visit and his wife is going to a school of that state, he said.

On the demand of cancellation of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with private power companies, he said closing down the plants might not be a feasible alternative but his government will renegotiate the agreements.
