NEWDELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two former district magistrates of Kupwara — Rajiv Ranjan, an IAS officer, and Itrit Hussain Rafiqui, a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service official — in connection with issuance of a large number of arms licences on the basis of forged documents, officials said on Sunday. The agency has taken the two officers into its custody.

AMBALA: A day after a Karnal man was arrested for throwing acid on his four-month pregnant wife in Ambala’s Barara, police nabbed another accused from Karnal on Sunday.

The accused was identified as Mukesh, a resident of Madanpur village in Karnal. Police have not yet revealed his role in the case.

The main accused Anil, who is the husband of the victim, had thrown acid on his wife and her sister last week.

The victim had suffered 40% burn injuries while her sister had suffered 18-20% burns in the attack.

The victims are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mullana, where the pregnant woman is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, Anil, who has been sent to three-day police custody, revealed that he had a fight with his wife on February 17.

A week later, he brought acid from Karnal and attacked his wife.

Mukesh will be presented before the court on Monday. Both were booked under Section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) of the Indian Penal Code.
