Sippy Gill booked for promoting violence through his song

MOGA: Police have registered a case against 37-year-old Punjabi singer and actor Sippy Gill for promoting violence through his song, Gundagardi, a video clip of which is being shared on social media. The case was registered at the Mehna police station on Saturday under Sections 153A (promoting disharmony), 505 (making statements conducing to public mischief), 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than 10 people), and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sippy, who belongs to Rauli village in Moga district started his singing career in 2007.

In January, a Chandigarh resident, Pandit Rao Dhannervar had filed a complaint to Moga police to take action against Sippy Gill and his companions for the video of his song ‘Gundagardi”, which was uploaded on YouTube on January 16 this year.

He alleged that video propagates violence and it would put bad impact on the youth of Punjab. He had also submitted CD of the video being shown on YouTube to police.

Superinten­dent of police Rattan Singh Brar said that Pandit Rao has filed a civil writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court and a complaint was also filed to the Moga police against Sippy for promoting violence through his song. “Sippy has appeared before the Moga police and recorded his statement. A case was registered against Sippy and his associates after taking legal advice from the Moga district attorney. While further investigat­ion is under process,” he added. Sippy was not available for comments.

Earlier in February, Mansa police had registered a case against Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, and Mankirt Aulakh for a video clip shown in social media which propagates violence.
