ANANDPUR SAHIB: Former MP and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Prem Singh Chandumajra on Monday sought health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu’s resignation from the cabinet over ‘missing’ de-addiction tablets alleging irregularities of ₹200 crore.

Addressing a gathering at Hola Mohalla here, he alleged that it was an unpardonable crime against the people of Punjab. He said it was shocking that about 67,000 addicts after de-addiction, got used to buprenorphine tablets, according to the government record.

He apprehended that unofficial number might be very high.

Chandumajra alleged that the tablets had been routed to these addicts via black market.

He said it was clear that the de-addiction campaign was turning meaningless due to smuggling of these tablets which was not possible without the involvement of the people at the top.

MANN DEMANDS SGPC POLLS

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann has demanded immediate elections to Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee .

While addressing a political conference organised by SAD(A) here, he alleged that the Modi government was not conducting the SGPC elections to serve the political interests of the Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP’s alliance partner even as the tenure of the gurdwara body has ended.

Mann also lashed out at the Congress government in Punjab alleging it has failed on all fronts and even the Congress MLAs were not happy with its own government. He alleged that chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal were hand in glove with each other.
