LUDHIANA/AMRITSAR: A woman house surgeon, identified as Dr Puneet Kaur, and an attendant working in the coronavirus-testing lab at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Amritsar, were tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

Ludhiana civil surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said Dr Kaur left the job at the civil hospital on May 1 to pursue MD course at Rajindera Hospital, Patiala. On the last day of her job, she gave samples and the reports arrived on Sunday.

In Amritsar, the 28-year old lab attendant was deployed at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) for assisting the doctors in testing the nasal and throat swab samples of the suspected patients and for maintaining records of reports.

Amritsar civil surgeon Dr Jugal Kishore said, “The nasal and throat swab samples of the positive Covid-19 patients can infect any person if they come in direct contact of the samples. The chances of getting infected from the swabs are high. He has been admitted to the isolation ward of the GMCH and is healthy and stable.”
