J&K crosses 700 mark with 35 fresh infections

Ladakh’s count climbs to 41 with 19 new Covid cases

SRINAGAR: Thirty-five more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the Union territory to 701. Ladakh has also witnessed a spike in infections after days of lull as 19 more people have tested positive for the disease, taking the UT’s tally to 41.

Officials said 34 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir, where the number has risen to 640 while one person tested positive in Jammu division, where the count is 61. The fresh infections were reported from Anantnag, Baramulla, Shopian, Kupwara, Budgam, Pulwama and Samba districts.

Government spokespers­on Rohit Kansal tweeted: “Finally, J&K breaks the 2,000 tests a day barrier. Over 2,500 tests conducted in a day with 35 new positive cases and 33 recoveries. Total cases in UT is now 701.”

Also, two patients have recovered in Jammu division and 31 in Kashmir, as per a government statement.

Meanwhile, 287 patients—234 in Kashmir and 53 in Jammu division– have recovered in J&K so far.

Kashmir has 399 active cases while seven are in Jammu.

Till date, 75,838 people have been put under observatio­n—10,751 in home quarantine, 406 in hospital isolation, 183 in hospital quarantine, 7,104 in home surveillan­ce— and 57,386 have completed their surveillan­ce period.

18 FRESH CASES IN LEH, ONE IN KARGIL

The Union territory of Ladakh saw a sudden jump in Covid-19 cases on Sunday as 18 more people tested positive in Leh district and one in Kargil.

Rigzin Samphel, commission­er secretary health and medical education, Ladakh, said 16 cases are from Chuchot Yokma village, one from Agling and one from Leh town. He said a woman has also tested positive in Sanku area of Kargil.

Leh deputy commission­er Sachin Kumar said, “The results of 78 samples came on Saturday evening of which 18 are positive in Leh. It is a big jump as for past many days no fresh cases had been reported. The district has been classified as a red zone and there will be more restrictio­ns with no relaxation­s as per the MHA order.”
