25 NEW INFECTIONS IN J&K

SRINAGAR: Twenty five fresh positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, taking the total number of people infected with the disease in the Union Territory (UT) to 726.

Officials said that 24 positive cases were reported from Kashmir valley, where the number of cases has risen to 664, while one new case was also tested positive in Jammu division, taking the tally to 62 .

“In the Union Territory, 25 new positive cases have been reported since our last update yesterday (Sunday),” said J&K government in a statement.

The new cases were reported from Baramulla , Shopian, Budgam, Pulwama , Bandipora and Jammu districts.

“16 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir,” the statement said

Besides the earlier restrictio­ns, the government has prohibited movement of people from 7pm to 7 am as well. “No movement without passes. Medical emergencie­s are exempted,” the statement said.

On Sunday, 35 new positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in the Union Territory, while 33 had recovered and discharged from various hospitals.

An elderly woman of Srinagar’s Batpora in Dal Lake area had died due to the disease on last Tuesday. So far seven people have died in Kashmir, while one in Jammu has succumbed to the virus.

While Jammu had recorded its first positive case on March 9, Kashmir’s first positive case came on March 18.

The official statement said that so far 303 patients -- 250 in Kashmir and 53 in Jammu division – have recovered from the disease.

There are 407 active positive cases in Kashmir and eight in Jammu. The government statement said that till date, 77, 656 persons have been enlisted for observatio­n with 11,850 in home quarantine, 415 in hospital isolation and 182 in hospital quarantine.
