KOLKATA MAYOR APPOINTED BOARD CHIEF, ROW ERUPTS
KOLKATA: West Bengal government’s decision to appoint the incumbent mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) as the chairman of the board of administrators following the end of the present board’s tenure has run into a controversy, with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporter moving a petition before the Calcutta high court and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar seeking detailed information invoking Article 167 of the Constitution. The elections to KMC and 93 municipalities have been postponed due to Covid-19. “The petition states that no elected representative can remain in position after end of tenure of five years,” said the petitioner’s counsel.
