Workers protest in Raj, demand transport to home

-

JAIPUR: Hundreds of migrant workers, mostly from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Sunday morning staged a protest in Bhilwara, previously a Covid-19 hot spot in Rajasthan, demanding that authorities arrange for their return to their home towns.

The migrant workers protested for over an hour at Pansal crossing in Bhilwara city.

District collector Rajendra Bhatt said that around 500 labourers, mostly employed in factories, gathered to demand arrangements for returning home. “The district administration has registered their names and other details, and will send them home in two to three days,” Bhatt said.

He said the labourers alleged that their landlords were demanding rent, despite them not being in a position to pay.Factory owners paid them salaries till April and currently, left them to their own devices. They have made up their mind to return home and efforts are being made to send them back, he said. HTC
