CM hails pregnant K’taka nurse’s dedication to duty
BENGALURU: A nine-month pregnant nurse, who hails from the Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s home district of Shivamogga, has emerged as a shining example for selfless dedication to work, with Yediyurappa expressing his gratitude and requesting her to go on maternity leave.
Roopa, who works on a contractual basis at Jayachamarajendra Taluk Hospital, daily travelled 60 kilometres each way from Gajanur to reach the hospital in Tirthalli and serve her patients, despite health officials advising her against it, considering her advanced pregnancy and the risk of Covid-19 infection.
On Sunday, she received a call from the Karnataka CM who praised her dedication and requested her to take a maternity break. “Roopa, I am amazed to learn about your efforts. It is nice to learn that a woman from my district is putting in so much of efforts. At least now please take rest and return to work after delivery... I humbly request you to take rest from today,” the chief minister told her over the phone.
