1,700 women undertrials given parole in lockdown
NEW DELHI: Since the lockdown was announced, over 1,700 women undertrials have been given parole by seven states to ensure social distancing in jails, the National Commission for Women said on Monday. With 1,039 paroles, Uttar Pradesh let go of the maximum number, followed by Haryana with 223 women undertrials. Chattisgarh (107), Gujarat (102) and West Bengal (93). It said for the mental well being of the inmates, video calls and phone calls with families were arranged regularly.
