STOCKS GIVE UP GAINS ON RISK OF SEC­OND WAVE

MUM­BAI: In­dia eq­ui­ties closed lower as in­vestors weighed the risk of see­ing the coro­n­avirus spread­ing faster with the coun­try eas­ing its lock­down. Stocks had ral­lied ear­lier in the day on ex­pec­ta­tions of a big­ger fis­cal stim­u­lus fol­low­ing an in­crease in the gov­ern­ment’s bor­row­ing tar­get. The S&P BSE Sen­sex was down 0.3% to 31,561.2 at the 3:30 p.m. close in Mum­bai, while the NSE Nifty 50 In­dex slipped 0.1%. In­vestors re­main cau­tious af­ter China and South Korea re­ported fresh virus cases af­ter a gap.
