Log kaafi bura bhala kehte hain, par main koshish karti hoon ki bura na manoon,’’ says Noorie Masih, a nurse at a hospital in Gurugram. While most of us practice social distancing amid Covid-19 pandemic, nurses are putting their duty ahead of their safety. On International Nurses Day, today, we ask some nurses about their side of the story.

Masih says, “’Stay away from us’, ‘Stand a little far’, ‘Don’t come to our shop’ are some of the things I’ve heard multiple times.”

Vipin Krishnan, a nurse at AIIMS, Delhi, shares that they have been feeding the needy in temporary shelters. He rues, “But many nurses in private hospitals have been asked to quarantine at home and foot the bills for tests if they show symptoms of Covid-19.”

A nurse, who was asked by the family of a patient in Delhi-NCR to stay with them, shares, “It was a tough call but I need the money since my husband won’t be paid in full in this period... Since the lockdown began, I have been feeding stray dogs in the locality. They need me just as much as my patient does.’’
