Wait-listed tickets to be issued from May 22: Railways

NEWDELHI: Wait-listed tickets will be issued from May 22 for the limited number of special trains Indian Railways is running during the lockdown, an order issued by the railway ministry said on Wednesday.

Wait-listed tickets were initially not allowed for the 15 pairs of premium passenger trains that started running on May 12. These trains only have air-conditione­d (AC) coaches.

The Centre may also deploy more special trains. In its order, the ministry said: “It has been decided that in these special trains and special trains to be notified in due course of time…there shall be no Reservatio­n Against Cancellati­on (RAC) in these trains and wait list tickets shall be issued subject to maximum limits; 200 for sleeper, 100 each for AC chair car and 3 AC, 50 for 2 AC and 20 each for Executive Class and 1 AC.”

Railways is also running Shramik Special trains to ferry stranded migrant workers home.

A senior railway ministry official said: “We will start issuing very few wait-list tickets from May 22 because some passengers are cancelling tickets at the last moment.” A total of 19,374 passengers travelled on 13 trains on Wednesday.
