Satyajeet realises ‘privilege’ on getting mom a hospital bed

Aaround 10 days ago, actor Satyajeet Dubey’s 54-yearold mother had a sudden migraine attack, with high fever, shivering and body ache. When he took her to get tests done, diagnostic centres urged him to get her tested for Covid19. She tested positive.

‘What is the source?’ Dubey has been asked several times. “You can’t pinpoint. I spoke to the doctor, who said ‘You or your sister could be carriers, someone in the building, even a currency note’,” he says. He and his sister are in isolation at home with their dog Laado, and cats Guru and Meena Kumari, while their mother is in a private Mumbai hospital.

Dubey uses “privilege” often during the conversation. Explaining the reason, he says, “As a son, I wanted to give her the best. But, if you go through the normal channel, it’s next to impossible to find a bed in hospitals now. Thank God for the kind of work I do, the people I work with — people were kind enough to say, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll help’, and they did.”

The actor was especially grateful for the support from Sanjay Dutt, his screen dad in Prasthanam (2019), close friend Ali Fazal, actors Tisca Chopra and Amitosh Nagpal, besides his first co-star Zoa Morani, who recently fought the Covid19 battle along with her father and sister.

“It hasn’t just been through calls to ask me ‘Kaisa hai? Kya hai?’, but helping me figure out a lot of things,” he shares.
