Highest single-day spike in Maha with 2,940 cases
Maharashtra recorded its highest single-day jump in Covid-19 cases on Friday with 2,940 fresh cases, taking the total infections in the state to 44,582.
Mumbai also logged its biggest one-day spike with 1,751 new cases, taking the city’s tally to 27,251. With 63 fatalities registered on Friday, the state crossed the 1,500-fatality mark and the toll stood at 1,517.
Of the fatalities recorded on Friday, 27 were in Mumbai, nine in Pune, eight in Jalgaon, five in Solapur, three each in Vasai-Virar and Aurangabad city, two in Satara, one each in Malegaon,
Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Panvel, and Nagpur.
Pune recorded 292 fresh cases, while Thane, Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad recorded 186, 108 and 59 new cases respectively, the state health department said.
Data from the state medical education and drugs department showed that 86.74% of the patients in the state are below 60.
Underlining that people in the 50 plus age group are most vulnerable to the disease, the data put the number of fatalities in this age group at 71% of the 998 deaths.
Maharashtra has clocked over 2,000 new infections daily for the last six days, which have also seen 14,042 new infections and 382 deaths.
