It’s on: Brace for heatwave
CHANDIGARH : Light rain in some parts of the city may have brought some respite from heat to the city residents on Saturday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave in the coming days.
Heatwave in the plains is declared if normal temperature goes over 4.5 degrees above normal or if the maximum temperature crosses 45 degrees. Temperature is likely to start coming down again from Wednesday onwards, officials said.
Maximum temperature went down from 41.9 degrees Celsius on Friday to 41.4 degrees C on
Saturday. Minimum temperature went up from 22.1 degrees on Friday to 25.6 degrees on Saturday.
In the next three days maximum temperature will remain between 42 and 44 degrees C, while minimum temperature will remain between 26 and 27 degrees.
Scientist at IMD’s Chandigarh office Shivinder Singh said, “Northwesterly winds from Kashmir side have stopped and the rise in temperature is likely due to the ones coming from Rajasthan.”
IMD officials said prevailing maximum temperatures are 42-43 degrees Celsius over northern Haryana, 43-45 degrees C over southern parts of Haryana, 41-43 degrees C over northern Punjab and 43-44 degrees C over southern Punjab. They added that prevailing maximum temperatures can rise by 2-3 degrees during this period. Maximum temperature can go as high as 46 degrees C at a some places.
