TAX BURDEN UP BY RS 220 CRORES

MAY 29:

T The Union Budget (1971-72) has proposed new taxes to the tune of Rs 220 crore to cover part of the deficit of Rs 397 crore. After deducting the state’ share, the Centre has Rs 177 crore of fresh tax revenue.

ISRAELI CONSUL FOUND MURDERED IN APARTMENT

MAY 24:

The body of the Israeli Consul- General, Mr Ephriam Elrom, kidnapped by Turkish terrorists, was found in an apartment today. The announcement said Elrom had been "brutally" murdered.
