The not-so-fat lockdown weddings

Indian weddings are usually a massive affair with hundreds of guests, plethora of dishes and extravagant decoration. However, amid the Covid-19 crisis, the quintessential concept seems to be on hold.

Priya and Mohit Aggarwal got married in Faridabad last week. “We got married with a gathering of only 15 people. It was good because our parents were okay with our inter-caste love marriage, but I was sure that I would have had to deal with a scene by our relatives!” says Priya, adding that it was fun with no “formalities or show off.”

Similarly, Pooja and Aditya Thakur also shelved plans of a huge celebration and instead had “small yet sweet affair” in Delhi. “We were excited about the celebrations that were planned — Sangeet, Doli, Shehnai. But, it turned out to be a wedding where only seven people were in attendance. We arranged a virtual set-up for others,” says Aditya.

Bengaluru couple Meghna and Charan cancelled their resort bookings to make way for an intimate affair. “Only 25 people gathered. We cooked at home; some dishes were prepared by our side and some by the groom’s side. It was a potluck,” says Meghna, who even did her own makeup.

Photographer Anand Kumar, who covered their wedding, says, “Their wedding was super safe and minimalistic. The activities kept everyone excited and it all came out so wonderful.”
