FM launches new facility for instant allotment of PAN
NEWDELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday launched the facility for instant allotment of permanent account number (PAN) to taxpayers, which mandatorily requires the applicant’s Aadhaar and mobile numbers, an official statement said.
The allotment process is paperless and an electronic PAN (e-PAN) is issued to the applicants free of cost, it said. The PAN applicant must possess a valid Aadhaar number and have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar to avail this facility, it added.
Sitharaman had announced the launch of e-PAN facility in the budget, 2020.
Although the instant allocation of PAN through Aadhaar based e-KYC was launched on Thursday, its trial started in February on the e-filing website of the Income-Tax Department.
The applicant of instant PAN is required to access the e-filing website of the I-T Department.
