SANGRUR: Two days after two prisoners escaped from the Sangrur district jail, inspector general of police (prisons) Roop Kumar Arora inspected the jail on Saturday and said that four jail officials have been suspended in connections of the incident.

“The jail superintendent has suspended four officials, including assistant jail superintendent Hari Singh, and two jail head warders. I have inspected the jail and will submit my report soon,” Arora said.

The two prisoners ---- Gurdarshan Singh of Mubarakpur Chungan village near Malerkotla and Sandeep Singh of Bangan village in Moonak tehsil --escaped from the jail on May 28, when they were working in fields within the prison complex.

Gurdarshan was convicted of killing Harkirat Singh, 50, husband of Manpreet Kaur, a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) sarpanch from Mubarakpur Chungan village in 2017.

Sandeep was serving a sentence for attempt to murder.

DSP rural Satpal Sharma said that raids are being conducted to arrest the prisoners.
