AMRITSAR: Even as Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh is yet to take decision on observing the 36th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal on Sunday appealed the Sikhs to mark the event on June 6 from home due to lockdown restrictions imposed to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

To pay tribute to those killed in the operation in 1984, Taksal organises religious events for days at its headquarters at Chowk Mehta in Amritsar. But this year, it has decided to hold brief function due to the lockdown as mass gathering is prohibited by the government.

Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma said: “The Taksal had been organising the function from June 1 to 6. However, keeping in view of the pandemic and restrictions, we are planned a brief programme. I request the sangat to remember the martyrs staying at home and recite gurbani (hymns of Gurus).”

The main ceremony is held at the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal seat, which was demolished in the operation, on June 6.
