Militants escape after encounter in Anantnag

SRINAGAR : An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, police said.

However, the militants managed to escape during the operation.

Kashmir Zone police tweeted that a joint team of police and security forces were carrying out the operation in Poshekreer­i village of Anantnag.

Police said two to three militants were trapped when the operation began in the morning. Sources, however, said the militants managed to escape.

Internet services were snapped in the area but were restored in the afternoon.

The gunfight comes a day after two terrorists were killed in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
