3 people commit suicide in tricity

MOHALI: A 37-year-old trader from Dera Bassi, a 22-year-old woman bank employee from Chandigarh and a 24-year-old ragpicker from Panchkula were reported to have committed suicide in the tricity in the past 24 hours.

The trader’s father attributed the suicide to his son’s mounting losses due to the Covid-19 lockdown. A father of two, the victim had gone to the washroom around 8:30am, but did not come out for long. Upon checking on him, his wife found him hanging from the ceiling, said police.

The bank employee hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Ram Darbar, Phase 2, Chandigarh, on Monday evening. She was from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and had returned about five days back and was advised home quarantine. No suicide note was found. The ragpicker was found handing from a ceiling fan at his house in Rajiv Colony, Panchkula, on Tuesday.
