‘Now is the time for survival of the smartest’

- Titas Chowdhury

When the lockdown had started, the government came up with social distancing norms that made people paranoid. But now, they’ve realised that nothing effective has happened towards coming up with a vaccine and so, they’ve lifted the lockdown,” says Gurdip Punjj.

She believes that the easing of curbs and phase-wise opening of the country is a good move as it’s time to go back to our regular life. “We can’t stay inside our homes for months altogether. Now is the time for survival of the smartest. We need to be smart and wear a mask and sanitise before venturing out,” she says.

The Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain actor says that the decision to resume television shoots on a limited scale is the way to go. She elaborates, “Some of us can sustain with our savings and the money that we’ve made. Our industry gives a lot of employment to people from different states, and most of them are daily wage earners. Putting a sudden bar on shoots made life difficult for them.”

She says that the money earned by technicians in the

TV industry is lesser than the film industry which makes their survival tougher. She explains, “Technicians who work in the film industry earn up to ₹15,000 a day but hairdressers and makeup artistes in the TV industry earn only a few thousand rupees. It is difficult for them to survive.”

Punjj asserts that Covid-19 must be covered under the health insurance of daily wage earners. “Television producers should have a large heart to take daily wage earners under their wings. They should fix some people who will only work for them,” she concludes.
