3 held for murder of Jalandhar dera head

JALANDHAR : With the arrest of three persons, police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the case involving the murder of a local dera head at Nawanpind Shaukian village in Jalandhar district in July last year.

Those arrested are Bhupinder Singh alias Bhinda (23) of Sanghe Khalsa village, Deepa (23) and Mandeep Kumar (18) of Nat village. Two more accused — Des Raj (25), who is presently in Malaysia and Rinku (24) of Nat village — are at large, police said.

Addressing a press conference, senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal said Mohinder Pal (55) was grievously injured in an attack by some unidentifi­ed persons on July 15, 2019.

A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 324and 323 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against unidentifi­ed persons.

Pal died four days later. Section 302 (murder) of the IPC was added to the FIR.

The SSP said during investigat­ion Bhupinder revealed that he attacked the victim along with his aides to avenge his father’s death as Mohinder Pal had conducted some black magic near their house.

The rest of the accused will be arrested soon, the SSP said.
