J&K reports one more death, 156 fresh infections

JAMMU: With the death of a 65-year-old man at Government Medical College and Hospital here on Friday, the tally of Covid-19 fatalities has reached 53 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union territory also witnessed a single-day spike of 156 cases — 88 in Jammu region and 68 in Kashmir.

Fifteen new cases were reported in Kathua district. “All of them were quarantine­d. The district has so far reported 145 cases, including 49 recoveries and 96 active infections,” he said.

In Poonch, an ambulance driver and a policeman among 13 persons tested positive on Friday.

Poonch district commission­er Rahul Yadav said, “All 13 persons have been quarantine­d. As of date, the district has seen 104 Covid-19 cases, out of which 28 have recovered.”

In Jammu district, four Covid-19 patients were admitted in the isolation ward of the Chest Diseases Hospital here. Their travel history was traced to Delhi,

Rajasthan and Pathankot.

Twenty one fresh cases were reported in Ramban district on Friday. “The district so far seen 193 cases, of which 156 are active infections, while 37 patients have recovered,” said a health official.

HIGHEST SINGLE-DAY SPIKE FOR LADAKH

Ladakh recorded its highest single-day spike of 104 cases on Friday, taking the toll of total infections to 176 in the Union territory.

“On Friday, 104 people tested positive for the disease. Of these, 36 are pertained to Leh district and 69 to Kargil district. With this, the tally of positive cases in Ladakh has reached 176,” said a health official.

MARKETS TO OPEN IN SRINAGAR TODAY

Over two-and-a-half months after the Covid-19 lockdown was implemente­d here, markets, including non-essential business establishm­ents, will open in the summer capital on Saturday. However, only 50 percent shops will be allowed to run on alternate days.
